The Ellery oriental warrior

It was a balanced showing between the backdrop and Kym Ellery's designs at the recent showcase for Paris Fashion week AW15. Set in the Paris apartment once home to Kenzo Takada.

Voluminous silhouettes; mainly noticeable in the pants design graced the runway; a signature of Ellery. Along with a combination of monochrome, hint of rich burgundy, light blue and detailed opulence in the print patterns chosen. The styling much like a modern oriental warrior princess simple yet sophisticated and strong. The distinct hair bun and hand made ceramic discs by Ellerys' mother tying the collection together in an oriental fashion.

With Mercedes - Benz Fashion Week Australia fast approaching the first announcement of designers to showcase at this years milestone week was the individual designers participating in the group showcase called New Generation.

The New Generation group show has been an important part of the Fashion week schedule over the 20 years.  In 2010/11 and 2012/13 Spring Summer seasons there were two separate New Gen showcases during the week long schedule. This has since been scaled back to one show to fit in with the four day schedule. So it's equally important to those designers who have been accepted.

The designers chosen already have retail grounding with two whole sale seasons a prerequisite for application to be a chosen designer for the group showcase.  By participating in the showcase there are benefits from both media exposure and interest from both buyers domestic and international. There is also additional incentive this year with the Bank of St George offering financial advice and mentor-ship to the designer which is a vital part in running a fashion business. Previous designers that have participated over the years at the beginning of their careers include Akira, Camilla and Marc and more recently Jaimie Ashkar,

This years group of talented female designers will showcase 12 of their SS 2015/16 collections on April 16th at the Carriageworks.
